Straits Gourmet Cuisine
293 Pennant Hills Road, Thornleigh

I've been to this lovely little Singapore/Malaysian restaurant a few times in the past, but this is the first time I've visited its brand new premises. They didn't move far, but the change is quite dramatic - it used to feel like a little takeaway shop, but now it really feels like a restaurant. There are still cute little kitschy touches to it, though, like the sensor-bird singing when you walk in or the bamboo with Christmas ornaments strung between it running along one wall.

It was an extremely hot day today, so I simply went for the mango sticky rice. The serving's a little on the small side, but the combination of warm sweet rice, fresh mango and cream really hits the spot.

Really nice guy, he's happy to give you cooking tips if you ask nicely enough.

I've been to straits once too, and the staff were probably the friendliest i've ever met in a restaurant. It was very easygoing in the old place, dunno what it's like in the new one. The food was nice too ^_^
